TheCarConnection.com's editors love the BMW 6-Series--but as evidenced in our hands-on road test, we'd love the 6-Series if it weighed a little less and had a little lither shape. Those twin goals could be met with the new 6-Series in the pipeline, according to AutoExpress.

BMW's planning a 2011 6-Series that's getting an evolutionary new shape, the British magazine reports, and from the crazy, swirling wrapper on the test mule spotted by photographers, it's tough to tell how much exactly will change with the new version of the hefty supercoupe and convertible. But like the new 2009 BMW 7-Series, it's likely the same styling themes will get a little more mature and will turn back the clock on the company's controversial "flame surfacing" that's been a point of contention for most of the decade.

The new car gets shorter overhangs at the wheels, a slightly longer wheelbase, and the convertible edition sticks with a fabric convertible top rather than adding a folding-hardtop option.
AutoExpress reports the
convertible will hit the streets first, so we expect to see more of the 6-Series at next February's Geneva motor show.
